About the Role

Xmission Tutors connects vetted, AI-screened tutors with families across New York City for in-person, one-on-one instruction. We're currently expanding coverage in several specific subjects and neighborhoods where family demand is outpacing our current tutor roster — if you teach in one of the areas below, we'd love to hear from you.

We're Especially Looking For:

Biology & Life Sciences tutors — particularly serving the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, or Midtown East. This is one of our highest-demand, least-covered subjects citywide.

Executive Function Coaching — helping students build organization, time management, and study strategies. This is a completely open subject on our platform right now — if you have experience here, you'd be the first.

Tutors based in or near:

Lincoln Square
Clinton Hill
Park Slope

(Any subject welcome in these specific neighborhoods — we currently have limited or single-tutor coverage in each.)

What You'll Do

Provide in-person, one-on-one tutoring sessions in your subject area(s) and neighborhood
Set your own schedule and availability
Work directly with families matched to you based on subject, location, and grade level

What We Look For

Demonstrated subject-matter expertise (coursework, teaching experience, or relevant credentials)
A clear, genuine teaching philosophy — we care more about how you teach than just what degree you hold
Reliable availability and strong communication with families

How It Works

Every application is reviewed for subject-fit and experience — not just checked off a list
Approved tutors complete a background check (covered by Xmission) before going live
You're paid per session package, with transparent, published rates — no hidden fees

Compensation

Session-based pay, 50–70% of package value depending on tier — paid directly via Stripe Express upon package completion.

Requirements

Must be based in or able to reliably travel to NYC for in-person sessions

Independent contractor — you control your own schedule and teaching approach

Xmission Tutors is an independent platform connecting qualified tutors with NYC families. This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity, not employment.
