Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) – Architectural History and Urban Studies

The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture (SSA) seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in architectural history and urban studies at the entering rank of assistant professor, starting Fall 2027. The candidates’ research and teaching will focus on the 20th and 21st centuries, and situate architectural history, urban history, and urban studies in global, transregional, and/or cross-cultural contexts. The successful candidate will teach in our B.A. in Urban Studies and the Built Environment program, offering the required lecture courses Introduction to Urban Studies and the City in History, and advise majors in a required two-semester capstone project.

The successful candidate will also teach a global history of 20th- and 21st-century architecture in the SSA’s professional Bachelor and Master of Architecture programs. The faculty member will have the opportunity to teach advanced seminars in the area of specialization.

The Assistant Professor will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Ph.D. degree in architectural history, urban history or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

• Conferral of the Ph.D. is required before the start date in late August 2027.
• The candidate must have experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate lecture courses and seminars in architectural history and/or urban studies.
• Scholarship appropriate for an appointment at the rank of assistant professor.
• A deep commitment to city life and the fundamental principles of a public institution of higher education with a highly diverse student body is expected.

Salary Range: $89,777 - $112,841. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
