PSch Associate Dean for Admissions and Engagement
POSITION DETAILSThe City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine (SoM) is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision.
Our mission is
1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented in backgrounds in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities and
2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.
The Associate Dean for Admissions will provide strategic leadership for student recruitment, application evaluation, and enrollment operations. They manage the entire admissions pipeline, from outreach and marketing to interviews and final candidate selection. They align class composition with the CUNY SoM's academic standards, goals, and values. They will make the final decisions on acceptances, waitlists, and rejections. Their decision-making is based upon mission alignment.
The Associate Dean partners with the financial aid office to allocate scholarships and grants. They will ensure strategic enrollment management while overseeing admissions procedures and policies.
The general duties of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Engagement will include, but are not limited to the following:
Develop and oversee mission-aligned admissions frameworks, evaluation policies, scoring rubrics, and strategic enrollment initiatives to achieve CUNY School of Medicine's educational mission.
Co-chair the Admissions Selection Committee, train and manage Admissions Committees, and cast the deciding vote on borderline admissions decisions.
Ensure compliance with LCME and ARC-PA accreditation standards, CUNY policies, and all applicable federal, state, and legal requirements governing admissions, diversity, student selection, and technical standards.
Direct the day-to-day operations of the Admissions Office and CUNY School of Medicine Welcome Center, including supervising, training, evaluating, and developing admissions officers, recruiters, and administrative staff.
Lead recruitment and outreach initiatives by developing innovative strategies to attract mission-aligned applicants, cultivating pathway programs with junior and high schools, feeder colleges, and professional organizations, and serving as an institutional ambassador at recruitment events, information sessions, and conferences.
Collaborate with CUNY Central, the Office of Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Institutional Advancement, Communications, and academic leadership to align admissions strategies, scholarship initiatives, marketing, and messaging with institutional priorities and branding.
Oversee admissions technology and data management by implementing and optimizing CRM systems (e.g., Slate), application portals, predictive analytics, Google Analytics, and data visualization dashboards to support recruitment, enrollment, and operational decision-making.
Safeguard the integrity, privacy, and security of applicant data while maintaining accurate admissions records and database management.
Serve as the chief liaison to national scientific, academic, and professional organizations and represent the institution in strategic partnerships that advance recruitment and admissions goals.
Serve as a pre-health, pre-graduate, and medical school advisor, providing guidance to prospective applicants on admissions pathways and opportunities.
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of MD, PA, and graduate admissions practices, pathway programs, and data-driven enrollment strategies while fostering collaborative relationships with faculty and institutional stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean for Opportunity Engagement & Financial Aid or designee
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
PREFERRED:- Doctorate or terminal degree (EdD, MD, PhD) highly preferred.
