Responsibilities

Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum and daily activities for toddlers in the two-year-old classroom
Foster a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment that supports social, emotional, and cognitive development
Observe and document children's progress and developmental milestones
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child's growth and daily activities
Supervise and mentor assistant teachers and classroom aides
Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom setting
Ensure compliance with NYC childcare regulations, health, and safety standards

Qualifications & Pathways

Candidates must qualify under NYC Article 47 for an Infant/Toddler (47.15) and Preschool Two’s Teacher through at least one of the following pathways:

Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education

Childhood Development Associate (CDA) + a study plan to obtain an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education within 7 yrs. (Must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment to qualify)

High school diploma + 9 college credits in Early Childhood Education; and a study plan leading to an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education within 7 yrs. (Must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment to qualify)

High School diploma + 5 YRS of experience in an Infant Toddler classroom if currently employed in a program. (It cannot be 5 yrs of exp. in different programs)

High School diploma + a study plan leading to 9 college credits in Early Childhood Education in two years + a study plan to obtain an Associate’s degree in ECE within 7 years. (Must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment to qualify)

Note on Study Plans:
Study plan teachers must maintain enrollment every semester to qualify. Exceptions may be granted by the DEPT but must be requested for approval. Study plans must be completed within 7 yrs of start date.

Additional Requirements

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field preferred
Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with toddlers or in an early childhood setting
Knowledge of NYS/NYC childcare licensing regulations and developmentally appropriate practices
Strong classroom management and communication skills
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic about early childhood development
Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and staff
