The Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the City College Center for Worker Education (CUNY) invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Black Studies/Human Geography to start in Fall 2027. Candidates for this position should be active in research, teaching, and community engagement, with a focus on the Americas and African diasporas. Areas of expertise could include policing and security, mapping, urban studies, environmental studies/sustainability, and applied social sciences, digital social sciences.
The successful candidate will be eager and able to collaborate across divisions and programs within City College. The department offers an interdisciplinary BA program in Liberal Arts, a BA in Social Justice and Urban Life, a BS in Early Childhood Education for working adults, an MA in the Study of the Americas, and two new MA programs in Instructional Design and International and Transcultural Education.

Candidates for this position should be active in research, teaching, and community engagement, with a focus on the Americas and African diasporas. Areas of expertise could include policing and security, mapping, urban studies, environmental studies/sustainability, and applied social sciences, digital social sciences.
The department offers an interdisciplinary BA program in Liberal Arts, a BA in Social Justice and Urban Life, a BS in Early Childhood Education for working adults, an MA in the Study of the Americas, and two new MA programs in Instructional Design and International and Transcultural Education. The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities, including teaching 4-5 courses [18 Credit hours] per year, working with the MA students, and participating in the development of a growing curriculum in Black Studies and Social Sciences.
They will also be expected to teach, mentor, and advise both undergraduate and graduate students, and to build community partnerships.
- Teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise noted above.
- Sharing responsibility for committee and department assignments.
- Performing administrative and supervisory tasks as may be assigned.
Ph.D. degree in compatible area of Social Sciences or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred Qualifications- Ph.D. degree in a compatible area of Social Sciences or compatible Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies.
- Applicants with experience teaching adult, non-traditional urban students are especially encouraged.
Salary Range: $79,630 - $94,017
