The Community Construction Liaison (CCL) serves as the primary point of contact between the community and the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) during construction projects. The CCL is responsible for proactive outreach, stakeholder engagement, and communication to minimize disruptions and ensure that residents, businesses, and other stakeholders remain informed about ongoing construction activities.

This position will work 30 hours per week in accordance with NYC DDC contract requirements and support projects throughout the five (5) boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Staten Island).

Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Reporting:

  • Work closely with the Resident Engineer (RE), Outreach Coordinator, and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct pre-construction assessments to identify potential community impacts.
  • Monitor construction activities and ensure timely notification of any service disruptions, such as water main shutdowns.
  • Document outreach efforts, prepare weekly reports, and maintain communication logs.
  • Assist with interagency coordination involving city services such as sanitation, transportation, and emergency management.

Compliance & Protocol Adherence:

  • Ensure that outreach materials comply with DDC standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to the "Good Neighbor Code of Conduct" to minimize community disruptions.

Community Outreach & Communication:

  • Act as the bridge between the community and the project team, ensuring concerns are addressed and project updates are shared in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain a Neighborhood Notification Network (NNN) to distribute project updates.
  • Prepare and disseminate public notifications such as 72-hour advisories, weekly bulletins,
  • Coordinate and attend community meetings, and project-related events.
  • Respond to community inquiries, complaints, and concerns regarding construction activities.

Work Environment:

  • Based in a construction field office near the project site.
  • Requires both office work and on-site community engagement.
  • Involves outdoor fieldwork and attending community events.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, political science, or a related field with at least two years of experience in community outreach, public engagement, or construction-related activities. OR
  • High school diploma/equivalent with at least four years of relevant community engagement experience.
  • Ability to travel to various project sites within designated borough
  • A Valid Driver's License is a plus
