Job Overview

On‑site Energy Manager will support our On‑site Energy Manager Program. The Energy Manager will work collaboratively with the assigned Facilities Departments to identify and implement energy‑saving opportunities related to operational initiatives, preventative maintenance, and capital improvements.

Your Responsibilities
  • Develop a strategy for energy savings Measurement & Verification.
  • Compile required project deliverables associated with required tasks.
  • Develop a road map of the onsite energy manager process for online publishing.
  • Initiate and develop an energy management plan within the first three months of beginning the project.
  • Work with the data services team to develop and maintain an energy tracking and monitoring system.
  • This will include compiling monthly energy consumption and cost data for all electric and natural gas utility meters along with building submeters (when applicable).
  • Develop and maintain a cross‑functional energy team and hold monthly meetings.
  • Conduct walkthrough audits and create reports that identify savings opportunities for further investigation.
  • Review maintenance operational schedules and procedures to identify opportunities for operational savings and develop preventative maintenance plans.
  • Schedule at least one employee training session to address the identified operational energy saving opportunities.
  • Develop and propose energy‑savings projects, including developing the business case for implementing the projects.
  • Manage energy saving projects related to capital improvements, low and no‑cost operational initiatives, preventative maintenance, HVAC and lighting controls, and behavior change, in collaboration with the Facilities Department.
  • Report progress to NYSERDA: participate in NYSERDA kick‑off and exit meetings and project management check‑ins with NYSERDA via conference call at least once per month.
  • Provide quarterly savings reports that document results from both capital upgrades and operational changes. Provide a final report that documents overall effort and progress toward facility energy reduction goal.
  • Develop a case study of the energy manager pilot, including savings metrics, for online publishing.
  • Analyze building utility price structure and consumption data (electricity, natural gas, water) for trends and anomalies.
  • Attend board and committee meetings as requested, typically after 5:00 PM.
  • Able work out of the Brooklyn on‑site office 3‑5 days per week (part‑time).
Additional Duties
  • Perform building walk‑throughs as needed, recommend energy and water efficiency upgrades and low‑cost/no‑cost operational improvements.
  • Prepare building energy reports with estimated savings, implementation strategies, and return‑on‑investment.
  • Attend board meetings as required (often at night and in‑person) to explain and pitch energy offerings.
  • Create target lists of buildings based on energy spend or usage and propose services to generate savings.
  • Develop high ROI/prescriptive measure programs that will help drive building energy reduction.
  • Represent and present on behalf of First Service Energy at industry related events.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, municipalities, local NGOs to support energy project implementation.
Minimum

Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to stand for 2+ hours at a time as needed.

    Experience with combined heat and power systems/CHP/Cogen.
  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Sustainability, or another related field.
  • Hold one or more energy‑related certifications: CEM, EBCP, CBCP, LEED O&M.
  • 7+ years’ experience working in energy management, building science, sustainability, energy auditing/consulting.
