Environmental, Health, and Safety; EH&S Specialist - PM Shift

The Role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist supports Fresh Direct’s manufacturing, warehouse, transportation, and express sites across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Reporting to the Director of EH&S, this role plays a key part in building and sustaining a strong safety culture. The Specialist will help develop, implement, and maintain the company’s EH&S programs while ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, FDNY, and other regulatory requirements.

• Perform daily EH&S inspections across all sites to ensure compliance with state, local, and federal safety requirements.
• Conduct routine audits of safety systems and departmental processes for OSHA and DOT compliance.
• Recommend operational improvements to mitigate risk and address deficiencies.
• Lead incident investigations, including employee/witness interviews, documentation, data gathering, and corrective action recommendations.
• Complete accurate incident reports and ensure all incidents are logged and communicated appropriately.
• Review departmental investigation reports to confirm corrective actions have been completed and hazards eliminated.
• Support all departments with safety training, including behavioral-based and job‑specific programs.
• Maintain adequate inventories of PPE across all locations.
• Prepare and present safety data, performance indicators, and trend reports.
• Deliver core safety messaging aligned with the Mission Zero initiative, targeting zero lost‑time injuries.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of hands‑on safety and compliance experience in a busy warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and thrive as a team player.
• Ability to travel within the NYC region.

• Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, NYC, and FDNY requirements.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• OSHA‑30 General Industry certification.
• FDNY Certificates of Fitness:
  • S‑95 — Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
  • F‑01 — Fire Guard for Impairment
• Experience operating forklifts or powered industrial trucks.

• Strong interpersonal, influencing, verbal, and written communication abilities across all levels of the organization.
• Ability to train others in classroom or onsite settings.
• Strong multitasking capabilities and comfort managing concurrent projects under deadlines.
• High motivation and passion for safety excellence.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Range: $66,300–$70,820
