Location: New York

As a Senior Associate, you will play a key role in supporting and leading asset market and trading activities, acquisition and divestiture efforts, and strategic analysis for hedging and trading opportunities. You will leverage your deep understanding of U.S. power markets, advanced analytical and programming skills, and structuring expertise to drive commercial success and support the growth of LS Power's energy portfolio.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading market analysis to identify and evaluate short- and long-term trading opportunities across commodity markets (Power, FTRs, emissions, RECs, natural gas, oil, coal, basis products).
  • Overseeing and guiding third parties executing day-to-day commercial strategies for generating facilities (bidding, fuel procurement, outage coordination, etc.).
  • Applying advanced industry fundamental and technical analysis to research market dynamics and assess trade and hedge positions.
  • Monitoring and interpreting market, industry, product, and pricing trends to inform trading strategies.
  • Structuring and negotiating documentation for complex trades, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Providing asset valuation and strategic support for acquisition and development activities.
  • Leading assessment and underwriting of revenue streams for target power generation facilities.
  • Collaborating with acquisition and development teams to evaluate and implement strategic hedging alternatives.
  • Developing and optimizing power generation hedging strategies across market regions to maximize profitability and minimize margin volatility.
  • Formulating and implementing risk management and trading strategies, ensuring compliance with strategic objectives and risk controls.
  • Applying advanced statistical and econometric analysis to power and gas data sets to generate actionable insights and predictive models.
  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to the development of best practices within the team.

Qualifications include:

  • Holding a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Having a minimum of five years of trading, structuring, and/or analytical support experience within the power industry.
  • Demonstrating advanced analytic, modeling, and fundamental research skills, including proficiency in programming languages (writing, reading, and editing code).
  • Possessing deep working knowledge of trade capture and programming systems.
  • Exhibiting excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Managing multiple complex projects independently with exemplary follow-through.
  • Showing leadership, initiative, and a commitment to LS Power's values and culture.
