Job Overview
The Control Room Operator will lead the safe and efficient operation of the Empire Windfarm from our Central Control Room located in Brooklyn, NY. The role supports the Control Center and Operations Department by delivering key performance indicators and reporting directly to the US Control Center Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Operate day‑to‑day dispatch of the plant to the electric grid.
- Monitor and control access to unmanned offshore locations.
- Track weather and vessels to support operational safety.
- Utilize SCADA/HMI/CCTV systems to monitor and safely operate all plant and auxiliary systems, including onshore and offshore substations and wind turbine generators.
- Respond promptly to alarms and abnormal conditions, reporting issues to governing agencies as necessary (Grid Operator, NYISO, NYPD, FDNY, USCG, etc.).
- Maintain operator logs and submit work orders when required.
- Perform proper isolations (LOTO) and issue permits for corrective, planned, and emergency maintenance.
- Complete all required training for the Control Room Operator role.
- Act as a temporary Control Room Manager when requested.
- Operate the Work Release System, including activation and deactivation of work.
- 5+ years as a Control Room Operator or in a comparable role; candidates from operator environments will be considered.
- Experience in utility/power generation or similar environments.
- High‑voltage experience desirable.
- Ability to make decisions in stressful situations.
- Strong collaboration skills with the capacity to assume individual responsibility.
Salary range: $39 – $86 per hour.
