The Energy Procurement Manager will be a transactional, execution-focused role responsible for structuring, negotiating, and executing power procurement and risk management transactions for Core Weave’s data center portfolio. This role will formalize and own end-to-end processes for energy transactions, including electricity supply contracts, hedging strategies, and coordination with data center operators, utilities, and developers on transmission and distribution arrangements.
This position works closely with Data Center Operations, Design & Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Corporate Development. The role will directly support Core Weave’s rapid infrastructure expansion while managing cost, risk, and reliability across power markets, primarily in the US, but also to support our presence in Europe.
What You’ll Do- Own the end-to-end process for executing energy procurement transactions, from market analysis and structuring through contract execution and post-deal management.
- Lead execution of electricity supply agreements, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Virtual PPAs (VPPAs), and other structured energy transactions across U.S. and European markets.
- Develop standardized contracting, approval, and risk review workflows in partnership with Finance and Legal, ensuring clear governance for all energy transactions.
- Execute power procurement strategies that balance cost, risk, reliability, and sustainability for Core Weave’s data center portfolio.
- Work directly with data center operators and developers to align power procurement with site selection, load growth, and operational requirements across current sites and future builds.
- Support renewable energy and clean energy transactions that add new capacity to the grid and advance corporate sustainability objectives.
- Design and execute energy hedging strategies (e.g., forwards, structured products) in collaboration with Finance and data center operators to mitigate exposure to price volatility, congestion, and basis risk.
- Analyze load forecasts, market pricing, and regulatory structures to inform transaction timing, tenor, and product structure; monitor market exposure and manage contract positions over time.
- Lead engagement with utilities, data center operators, and developers on transmission and distribution agreements, including service agreements, interconnection arrangements, and related infrastructure commitments.
- Coordinate closely with data center development, design, and engineering teams to align power delivery timelines with project schedules.
- Lead commercial negotiations with utilities, energy suppliers, renewable developers, and other counter parties to secure favorable terms.
- Manage executed contracts to ensure compliance with commercial terms, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, maintaining detailed documentation and reporting across the energy portfolio.
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in energy procurement, power trading, or utility/retail energy markets, ideally with exposure to technology or data center–intensive sectors.
- Deep understanding of U.S. power markets, with meaningful experience in deregulated markets; familiarity with European power markets and regulatory structures.
- Proven track record structuring and negotiating complex energy contracts, including electricity supply agreements, PPAs, VPPAs, tariffs, and long-term utility or developer agreements.
- Strong expertise in energy forecasting, market and basis risk analysis, and financial modeling for energy transactions and hedging strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute hedging strategies to manage exposure to price volatility, congestion, and other market risks.
