Wind Turbine Technician
Location:
Lowville, NY - Roaring Brook
Salary Range:
Technician I-Technology III: $28.50 to $41.25 hourly DOE
- Operate and maintain wind turbine equipment and associated infrastructure including substation, collection, and transmission systems.
- Read schematics and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic problems in variable pitch, variable speed control systems and components.
- Perform mechanical and electrical component repair or replacement to correct malfunctions per manufacturer requirements.
- Comply with project environmental health and safety programs.
- Perform preventive maintenance per OEM maintenance manuals.
- Maintain effective internal controls.
- Collect data and prepare reports for wind plant reporting requirements.
- Execute retrofits and design modifications.
- Conduct QA/QC functions, compile and submit supporting documents; support construction in mechanical and commissioning walk‑downs where applicable.
- Increase professional knowledge of turbine or solar equipment, including safety regulations.
- Willingness to work overtime on holidays, weekends, and under short notice on‑call schedule.
- Availability to travel to other sites on short notice (10-15%).
- Perform duties across low, medium, and high voltage.
- Ability to work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
- One year at college or technical school certificate; or 12 months related experience or industry training; or equivalent combination;
High School Diploma or GED. - Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment (e.g., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, megohmmeters, infrared testers, hydraulic torque equipment, alignment tools, hand and power tools).
- Advanced computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management, and reporting systems, including computerized diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to climb towers up to 100 m daily for maintenance in nacelle and hub.
- Capability to lift up to 60 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Proficiency working with electrical wires and interpreting color‑coded wires and instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Problem‑solving skills for practical issues with limited standardization.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, crane and rigging requirements.
- Teamwork, initiative, and positive attitude.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Weight limit not exceeding 285 lbs (excluding equipment/gear) during job‑related tasks.
- Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
- Experience in wind and solar plant construction, operation, and maintenance, including turbine and solar converter inverters.
- Experience in high voltage switching.
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude gained in related fields.
- Candidates residing in or near the greater local area.
