Description:
Our Client is an industrial-scale data center construction and operations company operating across North America, allocating data center opportunities between bitcoin mining and other high performance computing services such as AI. The company continues to develop its pipeline of power capacity at high‑quality data center sites, either for bitcoin mining or HPC.
Position
Description:
Our Client is seeking a highly motivated individual to identify, evaluate, and secure new development opportunities across North America. This role sits at the intersection of power markets, site development, real estate, and strategic growth. The successful candidate will lead efforts to source and originate new sites by securing access to attractive power resources, identifying suitable land parcels, developing relationships with utilities, landowners, transmission providers, and economic development organizations, and advancing opportunities through initial due diligence.
This individual will play a critical role in expanding Our Client’s portfolio of energy and infrastructure assets to support long‑term growth.
- Power Origination
- Identify and evaluate new power opportunities across regulated and deregulated electricity markets.
- Develop relationships with utilities, power generators, transmission providers, cooperatives, municipal utilities, and power marketers.
- Source opportunities involving utility‑scale power supply, behind‑the‑meter generation, and power purchase agreements (PPAs).
- Analyze wholesale power markets, transmission constraints, congestion, and pricing dynamics.
- Support negotiation of utility service agreements, interconnection agreements, and power supply contracts.
- Track emerging opportunities in AI, HPC, and large‑load interconnection markets.
- Land Origination & Site Development
- Identify and secure land opportunities suitable for large‑scale data center and energy infrastructure development.
- Evaluate sites based on power availability, transmission access, fiber connectivity, water resources, environmental constraints, permitting requirements, tax incentives, and economic development support.
- Build and maintain relationships with landowners, brokers, developers, municipalities, and economic development agencies.
- Lead preliminary commercial negotiations including site control agreements, options, easements, and purchase agreements.
- Coordinate site diligence activities with engineering, environmental, legal, and development teams.
- Maintain an active pipeline of development opportunities.
- Monitor utility integrated resource plans, transmission expansion projects, interconnection queues and rules, and generation developments.
- Identify regions with favorable economics for data center deployment.
- Prepare investment memos and presentations supporting executive decision‑making.
- Develop market maps and origination strategies for priority regions.
- 5+ years of experience in power origination, energy development, utility business development, data center site selection, real estate development, or infrastructure development.
- Strong understanding of electricity markets, transmission systems, and utility processes.
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements.
- Ability to evaluate both power and land development opportunities.
- Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently throughout North America.
- Experience in data centers, bitcoin mining, AI infrastructure, renewable energy, power generation, or battery development.
- Familiarity with ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP, or other North American ISOs/RTOs.
- Knowledge of large‑load interconnection processes.
- Understanding of transmission planning and grid infrastructure.
- Existing network of utility, power market, or land development contacts.
- MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Energy Management, or a related field.
