Well Optimization Technician

Repsol is hiring a Well Optimization Technician to support the Marcellus Asset within the Unconventional Business Unit. This is a field-based role in Horseheads, New York.

Position Summary

The Well Optimization Technician partners with Operations, Production Engineering, and vendor teams to execute well optimization strategies that improve production, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure safe, compliant field operations. This role is primarily execution-focused and supports production enhancement efforts through field surveillance, well performance monitoring, intervention planning, production troubleshooting, and optimization activities. The position plays a key role in identifying opportunities to improve well performance while supporting safe and reliable operations across the asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Operations and Production Engineering teams to identify, evaluate, and prioritize wells requiring optimization or production enhancement.
  • Monitor well performance and support optimization programs designed to maximize production and improve operating efficiency.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee well intervention activities to improve well performance and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve production system and process equipment issues to minimize downtime and maximize operating efficiency.
  • Evaluate, implement, and monitor optimization tools, technologies, and field initiatives that improve production and reduce operating costs.
  • Participate in production surveillance, route review, and performance meetings to identify intervention opportunities and develop plans to restore or increase production.
  • Coordinate and oversee vendor activity related to well optimization and intervention programs.
  • Ensure compliance with company operational standards and safety programs, including Management of Change (MOC), Permit to Work (PTW), incident investigation, corrective actions, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements related to field operations.
  • Train and mentor field personnel on well optimization principles, production surveillance, and operational best practices.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, optimization data, and performance reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Promote and demonstrate Repsol's Safety Leadership Playbook behaviors and actively support a strong safety culture.
Qualifications
  • Full U.S. work authorization without restrictions, conditions, or current/future sponsorship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Combination of education and directly related well optimization, production operations, intervention, or production enhancement experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in production operations, well optimization, production enhancement, or related upstream oil and gas operations.
  • Experience with liquid loading mitigation, field compression systems, and production enhancement techniques.
  • Strong understanding of well operations, intervention activities, and upstream production facilities.
  • Experience coordinating field activities, vendor services, and production enhancement programs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance expectations related to field operations.
  • Proficiency with SCADA systems, Open Wells, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Active IADC/OGOR Well Control Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Experience analyzing production data and recommending corrective actions to improve well performance preferred.
