Senior Project Architect or Engineer – Existing Buildings | NYC

This role is with a well-established, growing architecture and engineering practice in NYC, known for its collaborative, technically sharp team and its focus on forensics, preservation, and rehabilitation of existing buildings.
They're looking for a Senior Architect or Engineer with solid hands-on expertise and the leadership chops to drive mid- to large-scale projects from investigation through construction. If you’ve got experience with FISP and a history of successfully delivering high-profile exterior restoration work, this one’s worth a close look.
What You’ll Be Doing- Leading a range of restoration and envelope-focused projects from initial field investigation to completion
- Acting as the central point of contact with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
- Overseeing and contributing to hands-on site inspections, field reports, drawings, and condition assessments
- Managing teams across several active projects and mentoring junior staff
- Navigating NYC codes, FISP regulations, and relevant authorities with confidence
- 5+ years of experience in exterior restoration, historic preservation, or forensic architecture/engineering (preferably with NYC buildings)
- Deep familiarity with FISP and NYC Building Codes
- Proven ability to lead projects end-to-end
, ideally with 3+ years of project and team management - Strong client-facing communication skills
, with examples of effectively managing expectations and building trust - Evidence of working on mid to large-scale successful projects
—ideally involving complex residential boards or demanding institutional clients
- Licensed Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
- QEWI certification or interest in pursuing
- Field testing and measurement experience
- Strong writing and reporting skills (e.g., for Physical Condition Reports)
