Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems invites applicants for the Air Vehicle System Test Engineer – Engineering Field Service Representative (FSR) role within our Test and Evaluation organization. The position begins with 6+ months of training on a Domestic Assignment in Pax River, MD and Rancho Bernardo, CA. Following training, the candidate will deploy internationally—Japan, Italy, United Arab Emirates, or Guam—for a minimum of 24 months, based on business needs.

If no immediate international assignment is available, deployment to a core U.S. location is possible.

The FSR will embed with a US Navy unit as the system subject matter expert, providing training on hardware and software, and supporting sailors with operations, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance. The Navy’s intent is for sailors to remain the primary operators and maintainers, with the FSR offering training and assistance as needed to keep the system mission‑capable.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with NGC and customer Flight Engineers, aircraft maintenance technicians, US Navy service members, and subsystem SMEs to sustain operations.
  • Act as the primary interface between maintenance, design, and flight test engineering.
  • Operate Vehicle and Payload Test Controller (VTC/PTC) during aircraft start‑up/shut‑down for launch and recovery, conduct static ground tests, and troubleshoot.
Essential Functions
  • Provide inputs to update Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMS).
  • Review and provide inputs during engineering development and execute Detailed Test Requirements, Acceptance Test Procedures, and Ground Test Plans.
  • Install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and modify equipment in accordance with IETMS and engineering directives (TDs/ECRs/TEIs/AMRs/MAFs).
  • Perform organizational/depot‑level maintenance and technical support on equipment, integrated systems, subsystems, and software at customer or field locations.
  • Develop general knowledge of all aircraft systems, VTC/PTC, engineering design, and software; perform field integration, troubleshooting, and repair at customer sites, including flight line or hangar operations.
  • Interpret and trace electrical and air‑vehicle schematics; conduct essential electrical and RF troubleshooting using tools such as multimeter, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, and TDR.
  • Support review and analysis of engineering schematics, supplier design data, and functional test requirements, including acceptance, qualification, and system integration on the air vehicle.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Science, Technical, Engineering or Math (STEM).
  • Minimum of eight years of engineering experience with a BS degree, or six years with an MS degree, or four years with a PhD in a STEM field.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required training in Pax River, MD and Rancho Bernardo, CA.
  • Willingness and ability to support an international assignment in Japan, Italy, United Arab Emirates, or Guam for a minimum of 24 months.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to a core U.S. location if necessary.
  • Ability to pass a new hire physical if required.
  • Must have a DoD Secret clearance that is in scope or currently enrolled in CE, with the ability to obtain a Top‑Secret/SCI clearance within a reasonable time to meet business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable time for business needs.
