Our Client is a well established $500M per year privately held Heavy Civil General Contractor working for all public agencies building highways, bridges, waste water treatment facilities, and transit up to $600M in size.
A Project Engineer in bridge construction, specifically for steel bridges, manages the technical aspects of project delivery, from reviewing structural designs and steel fabrication drawings to overseeing onsite erection. They ensure compliance with technical specifications, manage material procurement, coordinate with subcontractors, and monitor project schedules and budgets.
Key Responsibilities- Structural Steel Management: Manage Steel Fabricator, review process shop drawing, schedule, RFI’s, etc.
- Site Engineering & Supervision: Oversee the installation, erection, and assembly of steel components, ensuring precision alignment and connection.
- Design & Analysis: Perform or check structural calculations for bridge components, ensuring compliance with codes (e.g., AASHTO).
- Quality Control: Inspect field operations, such as welding, bolting, and corrosion protection (painting/coating) to ensure adherence to plans.
- Documentation: Prepare technical reports, project schedules, material quantity calculations, and cost estimates.
- Coordination: Act as the liaison between contractors, design engineers, and clients.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural/civil Engineering.
- Experience: Previous experience in bridge construction, with a focus on steel structures.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with CAD software, structural analysis programs, and Project Management tools.
- Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or EIT (Engineer in Training) status with a path to PE.
- Steel girder placement and splicing.
- Crane lifting plans and safety procedures.
- Temporary works design for construction support.
