The Principal Scientist II is responsible for developing novel ePTFE-based membrane platforms for various applications across semiconductor, aerospace, and energy transition industries (targeted for liquid and gas separation and fine purification). This position is part of the Membrane Global R&D organization of Pall, located in Cortland, NY (Port Washington, NY can also be considered) and will be an on-site role.
- Drive the organization for New Product Development by delivering novel ePTFE-based membrane platforms for Liquid and Gas Purifications
- Develop the membrane technology from concept on-paper to pilot demonstration and manufacturing scale-up, meeting the Voice of Customers. Apply membrane science know-how and leverage expertise in applications (e.g., semiconductors) to customize solutions to meet customer needs
- Leverage structural and fundamental material science and polymer engineering to develop processing-structure-property relationships of polymers (thermal-mechanical properties, rheology, compounding, extrusion, calendering, lamination, biaxial orientation) and functionalization technologies (chemical coating, plasma, Ebeam, Gamma, UV irradiation, etc.)
- Leverage Open Innovation; collaborate internally and externally to develop technology platforms
- Cross-functional collaboration across internal customers (hardware design and cleaning) and partners (marketing and sales) for technological development
- PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience; experience in an industry segment such as semiconductor and/or aerospace is preferred
- Familiarity with the Semiconductor Industry (across modules such as Wet Etch or Dry Etch)
- Familiarity with using Semiconductor OEM tools for liquid purification; strong background in material synthesis, polymer processing and analytical tools is preferred
- Track record of publications, patents, and invention disclosures
- Ability to travel – 15% Domestic for internal R&D visits and high-priority customer interactions
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Must be a US Citizen
- Experience in the Membrane Industry
- Experience in the semiconductor industry with IDM, OEM, or Foundry
- Experience in material development for renewable energy

The annual salary range for this role is $135,000 - $160,000. This is the range Pall in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting and may be modified in the future. This job is eligible for bonus/incentive pay. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
