Overview
Insight Global is hiring a Junior Data Engineer to join one of the largest utility companies in the Northeast in the project management and planning group of gas engineering. This contract spans the rest of 2026 and will end at the end of December 2026. It is ideal, but not required, to be local to NY to train in person at their office in the Bronx.
The Junior Data Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines and integrations that centralize operational, customer, and gas related data into Microsoft Fabric and One Lake.
Responsibilities- This role works across Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases, Gas Central data, and PEGA/CRM systems to ingest, validate, and structure data within the lake, ensuring accuracy, quality, and relevance.
- On a day to day basis, the engineer evaluates which data domains belong in One Lake, builds new ETL/ELT pipelines where none exist, and performs Python and SQL based analysis to generate actionable insights—such as identifying which customers require outreach or compliance review.
- The engineer develops logic layers and reporting structures that support Power BI, Power Query, and business operations, enabling teams across customer operations, CRM, and gas functions to access reliable, unified data for decision making.
- They collaborate closely with various business groups to determine required reporting, support the creation of a customer 360 view, and ensure seamless integration of customer and operational data, ultimately turning complex datasets into clear, meaningful outputs that drive business processes.
- 5-10+ (depending on the junior/senior role) years of experience in a related role
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, IT, or related fields
- Strong experience using python, Power Bi, SQL, Microsoft Fabric (and One Lake), CRM
- Building ETL pipelines
- Previous experience working cross functionally to ingrate data to a centralized data lake
