This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a New York State Structural Engineering Group Leader to provide visible, hands‑on leadership for one of the firm’s most established and respected structural practices within our Transportation and Infrastructure business. This role combines technical excellence, major-project leadership market‑facing business development with responsibility for growing and inspiring a statewide team of more than 70 structural professionals.

This is a dual‑impact leadership role designed for a senior structural practice leader who wants to help win, shape and deliver complex transportation projects, while also building the next generation of leaders and collaborating across regions to grow WSP’s national structural platform.

The practice supports highway, bridge, tunnel, transit and rail, aviation and maritime clients across New York as well as the broader adjacent regions. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, a technical leader on marquee pursuits and project, and a connector across regional and national structural leadership.

This role will be based out of either our New York City or Valhalla, New York office.

Your Impact
  • Serve as a technical leader and strategic contributor on major pursuits and complex projects, including mega‑projects and alternative delivery programs.
  • Provide front‑end project shaping, concept development, and technical strategy to help win and successfully execute signature transportation projects.
  • Champion the development and application of innovative structural solutions that reduce construction cost, risk, and schedule while improving constructability and resilience.
  • Play a lead role in business development, working directly with clients and account teams to expand WSP’s structural footprint across New York State and the broader Northeast and adjacent Regions. Actively participate in cross‑regional and national leadership forums to align strategy, share best practices, and strengthen WSP’s structural engineering brand.
  • Establish a clear statewide growth strategy focused on expanding WSP’s market share in transportation infrastructure, with special emphasis on major bridges, tunnels, and rail projects.
  • Lead the pursuit and assist in the delivery of high‑profile, complex bridge projects (e.g., Traditional, Design‑Build, P3).
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen as it pertains to growth targets around pipeline development, sales, revenue and margin.
  • Managing multiple teams of structural engineers across New York State, ensuring the individuals and groups are thriving.
  • Advancing and implementing state‑of‑the‑art structural engineering practices, inclusive of advanced modelling/analysis/design tools, digital delivery, AI, and computer programming techniques.
  • Driving the development of innovations and alternative technical concepts to reduce construction cost, risk, and project duration.
  • Mentoring/developing people leaders, project managers, and technical managers in the structural engineering field.
  • Develop and implement a talent management plan to onboard and retain top structural engineering professionals, with a focus on succession planning and leadership development.
  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Drive technical excellence by rolling out new digital delivery and advanced modelling tools across the team, positioning WSP at the forefront of innovation.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.
  • 20+ years of experience designing roadway and/or rail bridge, tunnel and related structures.
  • Proven business development capability commensurate with supporting a 70+ person structural engineering team.
  • Proven project management and risk management expertise across a range of multidisciplinary project types and markets.
