Overview

An established utility infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to support transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects. This role focuses on developing accurate cost estimates, supporting bid submissions, and collaborating with project teams to ensure competitive, compliant proposals across electrical utility infrastructure work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for transmission lines, substations, and distribution infrastructure projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine scope, risks, and pricing strategy.
  • Perform quantity take-offs, labour calculations, equipment costing, and material pricing.
  • Develop bid proposals, schedules, and supporting documentation for client submissions.
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, procurement, and construction teams during bid development.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and potential cost savings.
  • Support change order pricing, budgeting, and project cost tracking as needed.
  • Maintain current market pricing knowledge for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, contractual requirements, and client specifications.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience estimating electrical utility infrastructure projects (T&D, substations, or related).
  • Strong understanding of transmission line construction, substation builds, or distribution systems.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and project documentation tools.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Experience
  • EPC or utility contractor background.
  • Familiarity with utility clients, permitting processes, and industry standards.
  • Experience supporting design-build or negotiated bids.
