Position: Embedded Systems Research Engineer - 6908 with Security Clearance
Location: Niskayuna

Summit Technologies Inc. is seeking an Embedded Systems Research Engineer to develop advanced power and energy propulsion systems for unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and other areas within our client’s business units. You will work with an interdisciplinary research and development team comprised of engineering, scientific, power generation, power storage, and security experts to develop, implement, and test embedded systems solutions utilized in UUVs and related applications.
Leverage your experience in robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous vehicles, space systems, missile systems, submarines, robotic warfare, and/or naval technologies to support national security missions, ocean exploration, and subsea infrastructure. Certain innovations may also be deployed across other functional domains within the client’s established commercial power generation, storage, and distribution systems.
This is a full-time on-site role located in Niskayuna, NY. Only U.S. Citizens will be considered as this role requires a DoD Secret clearance.

Roles & Responsibilities :
• Develop Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems (ICS).

• Leverage FPGA design tools to develop, simulate, test, and optimize real-time embedded systems.

• Help transition edge computing, real-time embedded controls and communication systems from early-stage lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes by working with various business units.

• Collaborate with hardware suppliers and engineering tool providers to identify and select solutions for challenging industrial and defense applications.

• Engage with universities, industrial consortia, and commercial partners to advance the state of the art in embedded systems.

• Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities.

Education & Experience Requirements :

• Master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of two years of industry experience [a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of five years of industry experience may be substituted as an equivalent].

• Two years of experience working with FPGA System of Chip (SoC) design and development experience with Verilog and VHDL.

• Two years of experience working with Xilinx and/or Altera devices, tools, and ecosystem (e.g., Model Sim, Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado, etc.).

• Two years of experience with the development of real-time embedded applications and systems on microcontrollers, FPGAs, x86, and/or ARM processors.

• Two years of experience in embedded programming skills (e.g., C/C++, C#, Python, etc.).

• Two years of experience working with Linux build systems (e.g., Yocto).

• Experience in writing firmware and with low-level programming (e.g., microcontrollers) is desired.

• Working knowledge of real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX, RTLinux, or VxWorks) is preferred.

• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as hypervisors, Docker containers a plus.

• Experience with CI/CD technologies (e.g., Git Lab, Jenkins, etc.) is desired.

• Working knowledge of Linux driver and/or kernel development is preferred. Clearance Requirement
