Job Title:

Commercial Project Engineer – C&I Solar

About Us:

We are a leading commercial and industrial (C&I) solar company dedicated to providing sustainable energy solutions to businesses across Connecticut. Our mission is to design and deliver high-quality solar projects that reduce energy costs and support a cleaner future.

Position Summary:

The Commercial Project Engineer will play a key role in the planning, design, and execution of C&I solar projects. We’re looking for a strong electrical engineer with solid experience in power systems—someone who understands electrical principles, load calculations, and system design. While specific solar experience is a plus, we can provide training on the solar-specific aspects. This position ensures that projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the electrical engineering design and technical planning for commercial and industrial solar projects.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and interconnection plans in compliance with NEC, local codes, and utility requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales, permitting, and construction teams to ensure accurate project scoping and seamless execution.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, system sizing, and performance modeling for proposed solar installations.
  • Review and approve technical submittals, vendor equipment, and material specifications.
  • Support utility interconnection processes, including application submissions and coordination with utility engineers.
  • Perform site visits to evaluate conditions, assess risks, and verify design assumptions.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Maintain project documentation, drawings, and records in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering or power systems design.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including load flow, protection, and distribution.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, electrical modeling, or design software.
  • Familiarity with NEC codes and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred

Skills:
  • Some experience with solar design or renewable energy projects (training provided).
  • Knowledge of inverters, racking, and balance-of-system components.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT certification.
  • Experience with CT utility interconnection processes.
  • Knowledge of energy storage integration and hybrid solar solutions.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
