Marine Technology Procurement Engineer job sea. Hellenic Republic.

The position was mainly established for the purpose of supporting the Procurement Division. The candidate is required to perform difficult and complex technical duties related to the purchasing of machinery, equipment, tools, parts, supplies or services necessary for the support of new building projects and always in accordance with established policies and regulations. The Marine Technology Procurement Engineer researches, evaluates and purchases services, supplies and equipment based on price, service, quality and warranty, in order to meet the needs of the Department, and also reviews specifications, prepares bid forms and handles bidding process, analyses bid results and makes recommendations and awards, while processing purchase orders and other requests and preparing and maintaining relevant contract files.

Responsibilities

Pre-Order Phase

  • Provide operational insights during the development of shipbuilding specifications, particularly for key equipment and materials;
  • Review and comment on shipyard’s makers’ lists to ensure suppliers and equipment meet operational reliability and maintenance requirements;
  • Assist in securing competitive pricing from trusted suppliers, balancing cost-efficiency with lifecycle performance;
  • Participate in contract negotiations with service, equipment and material suppliers, ensuring alignment with long-term operational needs;

Procurement Process

  • Perform the material procurement process in accordance with Asso Group’s business activities, policies, procedures and ethical standards;
  • Ensure timely issue of RFQ’s to correct vendors;
  • Ensure timely receipt of vendor offers for each requisition before or by due date;
  • Produce accurate Commercial Bid Evaluation (CBE);
  • Create Purchase Order (PO) with all supporting documentation, as per requirements;
  • Liaise with vendors on a planned basis for the purpose of keeping abreast of their capabilities, new products and interfacing with their management personnel;
  • Develop and maintain a commercially sound vendor base, continual survey of the market for new supply sources including non-traditional suppliers and assist in maintaining Asso Group “Approved Vendor List”;
  • Help develop project “Approved Vendors” lists. Pre-qualify vendors, if required, to obtain internal and client approval to use new vendors;
  • Participate in commercial negotiations with vendor and perform CBE & TBE per guidelines, ensuring prices are kept confidential and not shared with anyone outside the group and only to relevant people;
  • Place POs with selected vendors;
  • Monitor procurement against the project’s Bill of Materials (BOM) and ensure updates reflect our approved revisions;
  • Review material deliveries to ensure quality and compliance with project specifications, addressing discrepancies as needed;
  • Conduct visits to construction sites when necessary;

General Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and project teams to bridge technical and operational priorities;

  • Maintain and update supplier registers, emphasizing suppliers with proven track records in delivering value to shipowners.

Requirements
  • Working experience in marine procurement, preferably in the shipbuilding and major retrofit projects sector;

  • Training in Naval Engineering or Mechanical Engineer with marine experience would be a significant advantage;

  • Previous role as Marine Superintendent would be a significant advantage;

  • Previous role in marine equipment and machinery sales would be a significant advantage;

  • Advanced knowledge of vessel systems and equipment, emphasizing operational reliability and lifecycle costs;

  • Familiarity with shipbuilding contracts and procurement processes;

  • Strong negotiation, decision-making, and project management capabilities;

  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English language;

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office is required;

  • Experience of working with ERP systems is to be considered as extra skill;
