We are actively seeking highly skilled professionals to support our expanding operations.
We currently have an opening for Manufacturing Engineer II in our Dyco Electronics located in Hornell, NY. This position is critical to the success of our manufacturing operations by designing, improving, and implementing automated and manual production processes. This role will support engineering, production, and operations teams, reporting to Engineering.
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced, hands-on engineer with strong automation, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering skills and a demonstrated ability to develop, optimize, and support production equipment and processes.
Details of the Role:
The position of Manufacturing Engineer II is responsible for planning, designing, developing, improving, and implementing manufacturing processes and automated solutions. During a typical workday, you will work cross-functionally to optimize production efficiency, troubleshoot equipment, develop automation solutions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement automated or semi-automated manufacturing solutions to improve throughput, quality, and repeatability.
- Retrofit and upgrade existing production equipment with modern controls, sensors, and automation technologies.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve equipment and process issues.
- Support the full lifecycle of equipment development, including concept creation, design, build, testing, installation, and ongoing support.
- Maintain and update technical documentation including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and PLC/automation logic.
- Support the transfer of new equipment, tooling, and automation solutions from prototype into production environments.
- Mentor and guide technicians and junior engineers in equipment operation, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party automation components, robotics, sensors, or motion systems into production processes.
- Identify manufacturing inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement efforts using data-driven problem-solving methods.
- 5-10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or automation engineering.
- Hands-on experience with automated equipment, machine building, or production line integration.
- Proficiency with industrial controls, PLCs, robotics, and/or automation technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and mechanical/electrical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with practical fabrication, assembly, or machine shop experience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a bias for hands-on investigation and action.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lift and move up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to adjust focus and maintain adequate vision for mechanical and electrical inspection tasks.
- Ability to work with tools requiring manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
