Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday (typically 7/8 AM - 4/5 PM; occasional off-shift or weekend coverage as needed)

Job Overview
Tekberry is seeking a Quality Engineer I to support product quality systems within an advanced optical manufacturing environment. This position plays a key role in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring products meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements through testing, inspection, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role works cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to evaluate product performance, manage process changes, and implement corrective and preventive actions. The Quality Engineer will utilize data-driven decision making and root-cause analysis to strengthen compliance, improve processes, and support overall manufacturing quality performance.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Support and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) processes and documentation
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and applicable ISO quality standards
- Perform internal and external quality audits
- Author and review procedures, work instructions, and specifications
- Support qualification and validation activities with engineering teams
- Lead or support root cause investigations for product, process, and customer issues
- Manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Optimize sampling plans and quality inspection methods
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality and reduce cost
- Apply Lean and performance excellence tools to improve process efficiency
- Collaborate with engineering and innovation teams to translate product requirements into plant specifications
- Ensure process changes meet quality, compliance, and productivity targets
- Participate in new product introduction and validation activities
- Train employees on quality procedures and technical requirements
- Support material disposition decisions and quality risk mitigation
- Analyze manufacturing and quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Maintain detailed records and reporting within quality systems
- Support customer complaint investigations and field performance analysis
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing, process, or quality engineering
- Previous quality engineering experience in a technical or manufacturing environment
- Experience with root cause analysis and technical problem solving
- Experience performing audits and managing investigations
- Experience writing procedures and work instructions
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or regulated manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to work onsite in Fairport, NY
- US Citizenship required (DOD/ITAR compliant facility)
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Auditor
- Project management experience
- Experience using statistical or problem-solving software (e.g., Minitab)
- Experience in optics, precision manufacturing, or regulated production environments
- Advanced manufacturing/optical production environment
- Primarily onsite role
- Occasional off-shift, weekend support, and after-hours calls possible
- Minimal travel (≤5%)
