Summary/PrimaryRole:
This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for geothermal and mechanical construction projects. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, and subsurface data to develop detailed pricing for ground source heat pump systems, piping, drilling coordination, and associated mechanical scopes. The estimator works closely with preconstruction, engineering, and operations teams to support successful project pursuit and execution.

- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical systems, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and scopes of work to develop accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors related to mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping, in support of geothermal and energy infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate pricing and scope alignment with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) contractors, specialty vendors, and suppliers.
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site walks, and subcontractor audits as needed. Estimated travel requirement: up to 25%.
- Ideally has strong HVAC, plumbing, or piping backgrounds with the ability to provide support to onboard into geothermal‑related work.
- Thorough knowledge of piping, plumbing and mechanical system operations.
- Estimating, budget, cost control, scheduling, and management of multiple bids.
- Solid understanding of wide variety of HVAC equipment and materials.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and RFP/RFQ documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for piping, heat pumps, mechanical equipment, and related components.
- Analyze historical cost data and market conditions to ensure competitive pricing.
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and scope reviews.
- Identify risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability considerations.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure smooth handoff from estimate to execution.
- Maintain estimating databases, templates, and cost libraries.
- Assist with post‑bid reviews and cost variance analysis.

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–7+ years of mechanical estimating experience, preferably in geothermal or HVAC.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, piping, and HVAC equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in estimating software, CAD drawings and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Expected Hours of Work:An Employee is expected to work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week. Non‑exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.
