Summary
The Construction Engineer will oversee the construction of a GIS power substation, ensuring all activities align with design specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines. The role requires experience in GIS substation construction. The engineer will work closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the project. A Construction Engineer may have a background from one of the engineering disciplines.

Estimated salary range: $120,000 - $150,000.
Responsibilities- Provide construction engineer function in support of a wide range of construction projects, operations, and maintenance activities.
- Perform site visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations, and develop technical recommendations with moderate complexity.
- Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
- Independently coordinate cross-disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects.
- Focus on awareness of applicable codes, standards and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
- Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and authority specifications are satisfied.
- Review designs, specifications, and reports produced by internal engineers and external consultants.
- Provide direction and review of construction personnel in the development of construction activities.
- Work independently on smaller construction projects, maintaining oversight of schedule, quality, safety and scope.
- Inspect in-progress construction work to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, permits, and drawings.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to determine if the contractor is meeting the engineer of record’s design intent.
- Prepare a construction management daily construction observation field report documenting contractor progress.
- Act as liaison between the Project Management division and operating facilities, and between Headquarters and on-site staff, serving as the Project Management division's chief on-site spokesperson where applicable.
- Represent the Authority at industry conferences, committees, or task forces.
- Supervise maintenance department staff and contractors, preparing and monitoring day-to-day work activities of the crafts; work with planners to schedule work activities and oversee employee safety; review job packages for completeness and record all required data.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in construction of electrical, mechanical, structural, and water systems specific to the electric utility or building construction/renovation industry.
- Working knowledge of electric utility or commercial and industrial facilities and their various systems and components.
- Ability to apply diverse technical principles and practices, understanding NYPA policies, operations, and objectives, to constructability reviews.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
- Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
- Perform engineering calculations and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with Procore or Primavera preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
