What We're Looking For

At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter to all of us. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners.

This opportunity entails being responsible for overall field management of HNTB’s contract, administration, and coordination on projects of a diverse and complex nature. You will monitor activities of assigned staff for conformance with contractual requirements, provide technical leadership for complex or unique assignments, review drawings, specifications, and installation procedures for constructability, and recommend changes to design. You will represent projects at meetings and conferences, typically for projects of $10M or greater in construction value, and play a key role in mega‑project pursuits.

What You’ll Do:
  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation, and assist in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Coordinate project activities, establish priorities, and assign staff to jobs. Prepare Summary Inspection Reports of daily activities, monitor contractor progress, compare with the review schedule, and resolve technical field issues with architects and engineers.
  • Oversee project controls, including checking contractors’ controls and coordinating schedules.
  • Review submittals for conformance to plans and specifications and develop strategies with the contractor for submittal packages that meet schedule requirements.
  • Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Lead the development and execution of the project management plan and supervise and mentor the team to overall project objectives.
  • Interpret and enforce contract plans and specifications, including developing strategies with the contractor for submittal packages that agree with schedule requirements.
  • Confirm change order requests, develop estimates, negotiate costs, and write change orders.
  • Provide cost control on projects and ensure quality control within discipline.
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, build client relationships, and pursue mini‑mega and mega projects in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Prepare proposal and presentation materials and lead presentations to clients and industry audiences.
  • May be responsible for recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining construction staff, including developing plans for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 10 years construction‑related experience.
  • All jurisdictional certificates.
What You’ll Bring :
  • Winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on‑time, on‑budget, quality, client satisfaction) on multi‑disciplined projects; identifying and managing risk and change with guidance from more experienced staff.
  • Leading a team on mid‑sized and/or moderately complex projects inside and outside of HNTB using subcontractors.
  • Using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver mid‑sized and/or moderately complex projects.
  • Leading with minimal assistance from the Office Management Team in implementing HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
  • Serving as the lead interface with the client on moderately complex projects.
  • Developing successors to work with the same client on other work.
What We Prefer:
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of NY
  • 12+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NYCDDC, NYCDOT, and NYCDEP specifications
  • Strong leadership and team‑management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Primavera P6 training and practical experience
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Visio
