Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope Of Position- Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, and cost reduction projects.
- Supports manufacturing improvement initiatives, including fundamental understanding, variability reduction, defect reduction and process control improvement.
- Improves existing manufacturing processes and capabilities with a focus on machining technology.
- Develops methods and processes to improve existing products.
- Supports the implementation of new die technology and processes.
- Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineer related problems.
- Provides engineering expertise and leadership for process technologies within identified modules/work areas in die manufacturing.
- Performs manufacturing problem solving as needed in support of operations, including root cause identification and resolution.
- Applies knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges.
- Manages and dispositions any non‑conformances in router steps related to supporting modules, identifies root cause, and implements corrective action.
- Engages with Die Development teams to support new die introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation, and training.
- Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes.
- Develops process and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding documentation for key process steps or process changes.
- Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.
- Uses simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement; uses more sophisticated statistical tools and DOE techniques in problem solving and process/product improvement.
- Assures quality and repeatability of processes and products.
- Assures safety of operators and equipment while complying with safety and environmental regulations.
- Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering.
- Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects in line with business objectives.
Very little travel expected.
Hours Of Work/Work Schedule/Flex‑Time- Standard hours (Monday‑Friday 8‑5)
- Flexible hours may be required to support off‑hours experimentation on weekends and evenings.
- Bachelor’s required or Master’s in Engineering (Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or Manufacturing Technology) preferred.
- 1‑3 years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Technical competence and mechanical aptitude in machining process engineering.
- Aptitude for successfully driving to root cause and implementing step‑change improvement in manufacturing.
- Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through teams.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Track record of troubleshooting and supporting manufacturing processes through PCPD, LEAN, and DMAIC improvements.
- Strong use of data analysis and interpretation to drive process improvements.
- Strongly results oriented.
- Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods.
- The ability to organize and lead small groups of cross‑functional teams.
- Six Sigma Green Belt trained.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization or ceramics processing.
- Statistical software competence.
- Documentation (technical writing), machine specification SOP guides and machine qualifications.
- Basic understanding of Corning Environmental Technology Products, Filters and Substrates.
- Experience working in a Union environment.
