Postdoctoral Research Associate - Electric Power System

A Postdoctoral Research Associate is needed for the Interdisciplinary Science (IS) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The appointment is a one‑year position with the possibility of a one‑year renewal.

• Perform cyber‑physical system modeling and simulation for the power grid.
• Conduct research on power system dynamics and control under high inverter‑based resources (IBRs).
• Develop and apply artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) techniques for power system planning, operation, control, and cybersecurity.

• A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with broad knowledge of electric power systems.
• Experience with cyber‑power system modeling, simulation, dynamics, and programming in Python and/or MATLAB.
• A strong background in AI/ML applications in the power grid.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to take direction and work collaboratively within a project team.

• Experience with cybersecurity of energy systems and commonly used tools such as OPAL‑RT/RTDS, PSS/E, PSCAD, EXata.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity of industrial control systems and/or quantum computing.

• Candidates must receive a Ph.D. by the commencement of employment.
• Eligible applicants may not exceed 5 years of post‑doctoral or R&D experience after Ph.D., excluding time for family planning, military service, illness, or other life‑changing events.
• Salary range: $70,200 – $85,000, commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
