Job Summary
TYLin is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to lead traffic operations projects at major transportation hubs in the New York City region. The role involves leading a team of engineers, designing and overseeing traffic facilities, and coordinating with clients, stakeholders, and facility staff.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead a team to develop creative solutions to transportation challenges at large and complex regional transportation hubs.
- Provide guidance, oversight, and final review of traffic engineering designs for signage, striping, signals, and related elements.
- Oversee safety and state of good repair for transportation infrastructure at agency facilities.
- Collaborate with and present to agency officials, including non‑engineering/planning stakeholders.
- Prioritize, define, and delegate client requests to internal and external consultant teams.
- Manage work within project and facility budgets.
- Interpret data analytics to make informed decisions, develop recommendations, and propose solutions.
- Coordinate with on‑site construction projects to maintain facility safety while delivering excellent customer service and user experience.
- Stay current on the latest trends in transportation technology and mobility services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to anticipate and represent client needs and interests.
- Skill in interpreting or synthesizing data from disparate sources into a cohesive perspective.
- Experience managing transportation projects, including staff, budgets, and clients.
- Expert level fluency using standard transportation engineering technical manuals and procedures (MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, HCM, CEQR Technical Manual).
- Familiarity with industry‑standard sign design software.
- Familiarity with Synchro, VISSIM, and HCS, including program inputs, outputs, and limitations.
- Familiarity with pedestrian and transit analyses, including analysis inputs, outputs, and limitations.
- Flexibility to work at the project site and during non‑standard business hours occasionally.
- At least 10 years of experience in the transportation engineering industry.
- Degree in civil or transportation engineering, urban planning, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required; preference for PE in New York or New Jersey.
- Valid United States driver’s license.
- Experience working with public agencies on large‑scale transportation infrastructure projects.
- Project management skills and experience.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- PTOE (paired project and operational engineer) certification a plus.
Compensation for this position is based on the local market and is in the range of $117,600 – $176,400 annually.
