Mechanical Engineer Metallurgical Process Development

What you will enjoy doing*

  • Perform engineering simulations and analyses, including FEA and related process modeling, to evaluate mechanical behavior, thermal effects, and process feasibility.
  • Develop CAD models, engineering layouts, and technical drawings to support new process, tooling, fixture, and equipment concepts.
  • Support the development and optimization of metallurgical manufacturing processes, with a primary focus on rolling, pressing, heat treatment, vacuum furnace operations, and machining.
  • Apply engineering judgment, manufacturing best practices, and data analysis tools to improve process understanding, repeatability, and scalability.
  • Use software tools such as CAD platforms, simulation packages, Python, and other digital tools—including AI‑enabled tools where appropriate—to support modeling, analysis, and engineering productivity.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and project meetings, presenting results and recommendations clearly to cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Support experimental programs by preparing protocols, analyzing results, and converting findings into actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Partner with R&D, operations, and technical teams to translate development concepts into practical process approaches and experimental plans.
  • Work in an R&D and manufacturing support environment, with regular presence in laboratory and production areas. Exposure to industrial equipment, elevated temperatures, moving machinery, and controlled hazardous materials; adherence to safety requirements and PPE expectations is mandatory.

What makes you great

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required;
    Master’s degree in Materials Science or a related field in lieu of required work experience will be considered.
  • Up to 5 years of relevant engineering or industrial work experience, including internships, co‑ops, undergraduate research, or early‑career industrial experience.
  • Strong skills in CAD and engineering analysis, with experience in one or more major modeling or simulation tools such as ANSYS or similar FEA platforms.
  • Demonstrated interest in manufacturing, process development, mechanical design, or metallurgical operations.
  • Familiarity with Python or similar technical computing tools for data analysis, modeling, or automation support is preferred.
  • Exposure to simulation software for forging or forming such as DEFORM or Simufact Forming is not required at entry, but willingness and ability to learn and use such tools in the role will be needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and present engineering findings in a professional manner.
  • Travel up to 15‑25 %.
  • Preferred candidate experience includes exposure to metalworking or thermal processing environments, familiarity with process development methods, structured experimentation, and engineering change practices, and experience with simulation tools used for forming, forging, thermal, or structural analysis. Interest in advanced manufacturing, automation support, and data‑driven engineering methods.
