The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the “City”). We are seeking a Building Engineer to operate, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair building mechanical and HVAC systems throughout the facility.
ScheduleSaturday to Wednesday 7AM – 4PM
Areas of Responsibility- Operate, maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems and associated equipment.
- Perform routine inspection of all HVAC, and fire systems.
- Maintain compliance with City, County and State ordinances and codes.
- Handle daily reporting, logbooks, and assignments.
- In coordination with Chief Engineer, prepare operational procedures to ensure code compliance of Mechanical Systems, FDNY Logs, and annual maintenance inspections.
- Perform facility walkthroughs for inspections, data gathering, photography, and audits.
- Manage work orders through workflow applications.
- Ensure that operations are in compliance with safety procedures, client safety requirements, company policy and procedures, and applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Monitor contractor performance to ensure work is completed according to specifications and within the facilities rules and regulations.
- Keep abreast of new technologies and efficiency protocols for building operations.
- Perform related work and other duties as assigned

RequiredSkills and Abilities
- Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to multi-task effectively and manage multiple deadlines
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Excel and Word
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with tenants, contractors, sub-contractors, clients, and employees
- Ability to look for new ways to improve internal processes and workflow
- Proficient with BMS systems
- Obtain additional FDNY Certificate of Fitness as required
- Ability to read blueprints
- Availability to work overtime and respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Ability to lift/move heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds), climb ladders, work in confined spaces and outdoors in all weather conditions
- HS Diploma/GED
- Certification of Refrigeration required for Engineer position (Q01 Certification)
- DMV issued driver’s license
- OSHA 10-Hour
- Sprinkler S-12 Certificate of Fitness (FDNY)
- Standpipe S-13 Certificate of Fitness (FDNY)
- F89 Certified (FLSD) Fire Safety Director
- OSHA 30-hour or OSHA 511 Course
- Category 7G Cooling Tower Water Treatment License (DEC)
