A Staff Engineer in Interconnection Origination Engineering at Orenda is responsible for designing, analyzing, and managing the development of renewable energy projects, focusing on electrical system integration, utility stakeholder coordination, and project lifecycle management to support the company's mission of a more efficient, renewable-powered grid.
Key Responsibilities- Design and modify site layouts, single line diagrams, and electrical plans using AutoCAD.
- Perform conduit fill calculations and determine medium-voltage conductor ampacity ratings.
- Translate complex configurations of PCS, BESS, Switchgear, and EVSE into clear electrical drawings.
- Analyze the interconnection queue, conduct preliminary hosting capacity analysis, and develop regression models for trend prediction.
- Manage the lifecycle of multiple DER projects, ensuring milestones are met and optimizing system design and costs.
- Collaborate with utilities and regulatory bodies, including leading RFIs and meetings with utility engineers.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with utility stakeholders to address comments, elevate issues, and resolve open items.
- ABET Accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 4 to 8 years of experience in Utility Distribution Planning or Interconnection.
- Deep knowledge of IEEE 1547, SIR processes, and hosting capacity constraints.
- Familiarity with high-tension distribution systems.
- Experience working with utilities.
- Strong foundation in power engineering principles.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, or willingness to learn AutoCAD.
- Competence with GIS platforms and tools.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration, drive negotiations, and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- High degree of autonomy, with the ability to make informed decisions and adapt to evolving project demands.
Base salary range of $100,000-$200,000 per year, determined based on experience and qualifications
