We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer with proven expertise in bridge rehabilitation analysis and design to lead critical transportation infrastructure projects across New York. This role is pivotal in advancing the safety, longevity, and performance of highway bridges through strategic rehabilitation planning and technically rigorous design execution. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with NYSDOT projects, including the preparation of Bridge Rehabilitation Justification Reports (BRJR) and full-cycle design deliverables.
You will lead initiatives from concept through final design, ensuring compliance with AASHTO LRFD, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, and federal standards. This is a leadership position for a seasoned bridge engineer committed to innovation, quality, and impactful infrastructure solutions within a growing, mission‑driven firm.
- Lead structural analysis, design, and rehabilitation strategy development for highway bridges and transportation structures, including deck replacement, steel retrofit, and substructure repairs.
- Prepare and oversee the creation of BRJR, design approval documents, preliminary and final design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Assess structural deficiencies and evaluate rehabilitation versus replacement alternatives using technical and economic analysis.
- Perform and supervise load rating assessments and bridge design using AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) and AASHTOWare Bridge Design (BrD).
- Develop detailed structural calculations, life‑cycle assessments, cost comparisons, and technical reports.
- Ensure all design work complies with NYSDOT Bridge Manual, AASHTO LRFD, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with NYSDOT Structures Division and regional staff during design development and review.
- Provide comprehensive QA/QC oversight of all structural deliverables.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to proposal development and technical pursuit initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- 10–15+ years of progressive experience in bridge design and structural engineering, with a focus on rehabilitation.
- Proven track record leading NYSDOT bridge design projects, including preparation of BRJR, design documents, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Expertise in bridge rehabilitation, including superstructure and substructure design and analysis.
- Proficiency in AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) and Bridge Design (BrD); CSI, SAP, or equivalent structural analysis software;
AutoCAD and/or Micro Station (Micro Station preferred). - In‑depth understanding of bridge inspection data, condition rating systems, and common deterioration mechanisms.
