Job Description The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Multidisciplined Engineer to lead the Asbestos Program as the Site Asbestos Coordinator at the Knolls Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY. Interested, Apply today! More about this role:
• Provides expertise in resolving technical issues related to asbestos. Stays up to date with asbestos-related regulations and best practices to ensure compliance with safety and legal standards.
• Assist the Radiological and Asbestos Programs Unit Manager in executing the roles and responsibilities of the Site Asbestos Coordinator as defined by corporate and local instructions.
• Own the continuing training program for Asbestos Building Inspectors (ABIs) and Asbestos Competent Persons.
• Act as the certifying official and owner of ABI and Asbestos Competent Person qualification cards. Maintain accurate records and qualifications.
• Train Asbestos Competent Persons.
• Manage the Knolls Laboratory routine asbestos air sampling plan.
• Prepare and submit Annual, Semi-Annual, and interim Asbestos NESHAP regulatory notifications for submission to the EPA. Serve as the point of contact for all NESHAP-related inquiries regarding renovation or demolition work.
• Work with other Site Asbestos Coordinators to share learning, identify improvement areas, and act as a liaison Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience;
or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company. Preferred Skills
• Experience with asbestos abatement oversight
• Strong understanding of asbestos requirements (OSHA , NYS Code Rule 56, NESHAP) and work practices
• Excellent Communication Skills, including ability to prepare formal notifications
• Experience using SharePoint and Microsoft Office
• Ability to work with medium cross functional teams
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail
