DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP’s water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
PositionSummary
BEDC seeks to hire an Assistant Civil Engineer (Assistant Design Engineer
1) for IHD’s Civil Section, located at our headquarters in Queens, NY. Under supervision of the Lead Design Engineer, the selected candidate will assist in the implementation of capital projects through the design and construction phase by preparing engineering documents including drawings, calculations, and specifications for large, complex projects for water supply and wastewater facilities.
- Prepare engineering documents including drawings, calculations, and specifications
- Conduct investigations and field visits
- Review shop drawings and requests for information
- Prepare and complete change order documentation
- Assist in project schedule development
- Communicate and coordinate with other engineers and stakeholders
- Document issues and resolutions in issue logs
- Experience in the planning, layout and details of contract drawings, specifications, shop drawing review, field inspections and investigations
- Advanced computer software skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
- Experience in the design of site plans, piping plans, grading and drainage plans, and stormwater management for facilities during and post construction
- Experience in the application of code requirements, preparation of technical reports, and related design software applications
- Preference given to candidates with experience in AutoCAD (Autodesk) and Civil 3D
- Preference given to candidates who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication
- A Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the state of New York may be required for some assignments
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master’s degree from an accredited college in civil engineering
