Civil Engineer
Job DescriptionThis Civil Engineer role focuses on the design and delivery of roadway and highway projects, including grading, drainage, utilities, green infrastructure, work zone traffic control, and site layout for transportation infrastructure. You will develop detailed civil and highway design plans using industry-standard software, prepare technical documentation, and support multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects across the New York metropolitan area. This position offers the opportunity to work on streets, highways, interchanges, railroad sites, and other high-profile infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities- Perform roadway and highway design, including alignments, profiles, cross sections, and related transportation engineering tasks.
- Design grading and drainage systems for civil and highway projects, ensuring effective stormwater management and compliance with applicable standards.
- Design and coordinate utilities and green infrastructure elements within transportation and site projects.
- Develop work zone traffic control plans to support safe and efficient construction operations.
- Prepare site layout designs for transportation and related civil infrastructure projects.
- Create civil and highway design plans, profiles, sections, and construction details using AutoCAD and Micro Station.
- Use Civil 3D, InRoads, and Open Roads to produce and refine 3D models, design surfaces, and corridor models for transportation projects.
- Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, specifications, and other contract documents to support project delivery and approvals.
- Support multi-disciplinary design teams that may include structural, architectural, and construction management professionals throughout project execution.
- Provide engineering support for a variety of other civil and transportation engineering activities as project needs arise.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to incorporate design feedback and resolve technical issues during design development.
- Perform additional responsibilities as appropriate for the position to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Design experience for civil and highway projects.
- 4+ years of experience working on NYCDOT and NYCDDC civil and highway projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for civil and transportation design.
- Experience using Civil 3D or Micro Station for roadway and site design.
- Experience with InRoads and Open Roads for highway and transportation design workflows.
- Strong background in civil engineering, highway design, and roadway design.
- Experience in transportation design and civil design for infrastructure projects.
- Hands-on experience with drainage and grading design for civil and highway projects.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documents.
- Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting design for streets, highways, interchanges, and railroad-related sites.
- Familiarity with New York area transportation and infrastructure standards and practices.
- Strong attention to detail in preparing plans, profiles, sections, and design details.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines within active projects.
- Interest in working on a wide variety of infrastructure projects, including utilities and green infrastructure.
