Job Description
The Senior Engineer is a technical authority and project engineer for power generation systems, responsible for independent engineering decision making and capital project execution to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant plant operation. This role combines deep electrical and mechanical engineering expertise with full project ownership, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, vendor management, and commissioning. The Senior Engineer supports steam and gas generating assets and applies engineering judgment across generators, transformers, breakers, relays, turbines, boilers, and high pressure steam systems.
The role requires strong design basis discipline, experience working in regulated utility or heavy industrial environments, and the ability to identify and elevate engineering risks early. The Senior Engineer partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Project Managers, and Engineering teams, supports outages and inspections, ensures compliance with applicable reliability and regulatory requirements (including NERC), and produces clear, defensible engineering documentation and technical justifications.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as technical decision maker and subject matter expert for power generation systems
- Lead capital projects from scope development through commissioning, managing schedules, budgets, and funding
- Develop and review engineering analyses, drawings, technical and purchase specifications
- Evaluate bids, review vendor submittals, and oversee contractor deliverables
- Apply electrical and mechanical engineering expertise to generators, transformers, breakers, relays, turbines, boilers, and steam systems
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, reliability, and design basis requirements (e.g., NERC)
- Support audits, inspections, outages, and field execution
- Communicate engineering decisions clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering
- 8+ years of engineering experience in a regulated utility or heavy industrial environment (power generation, steam/gas plants, utilities)
- Experience leading engineering projects with scope, schedule, and budget responsibility
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics
- Proven ability to perform independent engineering analysis, exercise sound judgment, and document decisions
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or progress toward licensure
- Experience supporting NERC compliance or reliability activities
- Experience with vendor management, purchase specifications, and equipment replacement projects
- Familiarity with IEEE, NFPA, and applicable power generation codes and standards
