Warranty Engineer - Standard Motor Products
OverviewIn this role you will provide quality and engineering support related to automotive products supplied by Standard Motor Products. Main duties include warranty evaluation, laboratory testing, failure analysis, and root cause investigation of returned products to support product quality and reliability improvements.
Responsibilities- Perform hands‑on failure analysis and diagnostic evaluation of returned automotive electrical products including sensors, switches, ignition products, actuators, and control devices.
- Replicate field failures through controlled bench testing and simulated operating conditions to validate product concerns and confirm corrective actions.
- Generate, issue, and track product correction documents based on failure modes, test results, teardown findings, and corrective action recommendations.
- Log quality concerns, maintain laboratory evaluation records, and provide detailed technical analysis and reporting on investigation status.
- Generate warranty return trend reports and analyze recurring field failures to identify product or application issues.
- Consolidate and review corrective action reports from various SMP locations and suppliers.
- Work directly with suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing teams to implement product improvements, design revisions, and corrective action plans.
- Support ISO 9001 compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical product support for customer inquiries involving diagnostic troubleshooting, product performance, and application‑related concerns.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations with suppliers, customers, buyers, and other departments through reports, meetings, presentations, telephone, e‑mail, and in person.
- Engineering or Technical Degree (Quality, Automotive, Electrical, or Mechanical).
- Minimum of 3 years full‑time work experience.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Certification in Quality Engineering.
- Experience in automotive schematics, diagnostics, testing, and repair.
- Understanding of electronics, sensors, automotive systems, computer systems, and theory of internal combustion engines.
- Knowledge of electrical diagnostic equipment including oscilloscopes, meters, and other test devices.
Medium work:
Exerting up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Ability to work for extended periods sitting and looking at a computer while completing repetitive motions to include substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.

$80,000 – $90,000 per year.
