Engineer Full Time or Rotational - 157' Sailing Yacht Arabella

Posted : 5/26/26

Location :
New York Harbor

Arabella is a magnificent 157-foot sailing yacht with an active schedule of charters, events, and offshore passages — owned and operated by the Manhattan Yacht Club, one of the most active and adventurous sailing organizations in the country.

We are currently seeking an Engineer to join our professional crew. The position may be either full-time or rotational, depending on experience and availability.

This is a hands‑on role aboard a large classic sailing yacht operating in New York, New England, and the Caribbean. The ideal candidate is practical, adaptable, calm under pressure, and enjoys being part of a collaborative crew environment.

We especially welcome applicants with sailing backgrounds or experience aboard charter yachts, commercial vessels, or expedition‑style operations.

Summer & Ongoing Operations
  • Spring & Summer:
Day charters and private events in New York Harbor
  • Summer:
Multi‑day and week‑long charters throughout Newport, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Maine
  • Fall & Beyond:
New York Harbor operations, offshore passages, shipyard periods, and Caribbean charter operations
Position
  • Engineer
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operation and maintenance of vessel mechanical and electrical systems
  • Maintain generators, engines, pumps, hydraulics, HVAC, watermakers, and associated systems
  • Troubleshoot and respond to onboard technical issues underway and at dock
  • Perform preventative maintenance and maintain organized engineering records
  • Coordinate repairs, spare parts, contractors, and shipyard projects as needed
  • Support docking, line handling, tender operations, and general vessel operations when required
  • Work closely with Captain and crew to ensure safe and efficient vessel operation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering experience aboard yachts, commercial vessels, tall ships, or similar platforms
  • Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and team attitude
  • Sailing experience is a plus, but not required
  • STCW and relevant engineering licenses or certifications preferred, but qualified candidates without formal endorsements will also be considered
Who We’re Looking For
  • A positive attitude and calm demeanor
  • Pride in workmanship and attention to detail
  • Flexibility and willingness to help wherever needed
  • Strong communication and teamwork
  • The ability to thrive in an active charter environment
