Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct site visits and available information research for new opportunities
  • Perform subsurface investigations, including inspecting and logging borings, field soil classifications, test pits, cone penetration probes, and various field testing.
  • Perform pre and post-condition surveys of buildings and structures;
  • Perform instrumentation monitoring for buildings, transit facilities, etc., including seismographs and crack gauges.
  • Assist in performing inspections for new foundation construction, including but not limited to deep and shallow foundations, subgrade preparation, support of excavation structures, underpinning systems, and pile load tests.
  • Interpret soil or rock testing data and define subsurface conditions to develop parameters for modeling and designing subsurface profiles.
  • Prepare daily logs and communicate investigation or construction progress with the office.
  • Assist in preparing inspection logs and reports for construction approval and Code compliance.
  • Assist in preparation for geotechnical and construction reports.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel locally by public transportation, or with vehicle for equipment transport.
  • Travel long-distance by air or train; overnight stays.
Typical Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Navigate job site/field environment as well as an office environment.
  • Remain either stationary for extended periods (for instance, in a chair or vehicle), or move often (for instance, walking through a job site), depending on project needs.
  • Lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Position self in a stooping, kneeling, or crouching manner and climb ladders and stairs for reading instruments.
  • Navigate uneven ground and footing conditions (for example, soil/gravel/ mud footing, riprap and slopes, rugged terrain).
  • Work in varying weather conditions (for example, cold, hot, rain, snow).
  • Wear gloves, use hands, handle or feel objects, tools, machinery and computers.
  • Communicate with others; exchange information accurately.
  • Operate specialized equipment and instruments.
  • Work in varying noise levels in the construction work environment.
Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program;

  • 0-2 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Auto CAD, Micro Station, Revit experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of L-Pile, A-Pile, SlopeW, SeepW, Settle 3D, Winstress and other specialty software is a plus
  • Engineer in Training or registered for FE examination;
  • Readiness to spend time in the field for short or long-term projects;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
