The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all facilities related to the treatment of sewage within the five boroughs of the City. This includes 14 wastewater treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, collections facilities (pumping stations, combined sewer overflow retention facilities, regulators, tide gates, etc.), wastewater laboratories and harbor vessels.

Mechanical Contract Section is primarily responsible for the preparation, procurement, and execution of requirement contracts for the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment located at various BWT facilities. The section coordinates with external contractors to perform standard/emergency repair, and preventive maintenance.

Job Duties
  • Under general direction, manages multi-year service contracts.
  • Under general direction, submit reports and recommendations of field inspections and investigations relevant to assigned work and maintain status records of all projects. Prepares and submits periodic progress reports on projects and reports on all project related issues that may impact the scope of work, schedule and cost of projects.
  • Under general direction, perform field inspections to check progress or completion of contract or in-house work.
  • Under general direction, prepares Contract Specifications, Cost Estimates, Work Orders and Requisition s.
  • Under general direction, engages in engineering work.
  • Under general direction, perform investigations, studies and reviews.
  • Under general direction, manage records from creation/receipt through to archiving or destruction.

    Minimum Qualifications

    One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more, and either:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects;
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in "1" above;
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience described in "1" above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience.
