Job Overview

The Senior Nuclear Operator (SNO) is the senior represented nuclear operator on a shift. The SNO directs and coordinates the work of all operators of a lower grade on shift that are engaged in the operation of a nuclear power plant, including the nuclear steam supply system, turbine generator, and all auxiliary equipment and associated 345 kV and 115 kV switchyards during plant startup, shutdown, refueling, emergency and normal operating conditions.

The SNO is responsible for proper operation of all the nuclear power plant's equipment within the confines of technical specifications, operating procedures, special procedures and other procedures that apply to operation of the nuclear power plant. The SNO may assume the duties and responsibilities of the nuclear control operator when conditions or circumstances dictate.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate the work of lower‑grade nuclear operators.
  • Coordinate the activities of personnel working in the plant facilities.
  • Maintain an active interest in the operations of the nuclear power plant and keep current with technological advances as they apply to the position of Senior Nuclear Operator.
  • Maintain proper operation of plant equipment within technical specifications and operating procedures.
  • Act as the Senior Nuclear Operator during plant startup, shutdown, refueling, emergency, and normal operations.
Qualifications
  • Ability to qualify as a Radiation Protection Self‑Monitor.
  • Holder of an NRC Reactor Operators License.
  • Ability to direct the work of other employees.
  • Ability to assist in the training of other employees.
  • Minimum two years of operating experience in a thermal power plant, with at least one year as a Nuclear Control Operator or equivalent.
