Primary Responsibilities
HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group is seeking to hire a Civil/Highway EIT/Designer to work Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects.
The primary duties of the Civil/Highway EIT include working as part of a team to produce design criteria, design plans, design calculations, cost estimates and specifications for highway and site/civil projects. It is expected that the candidate be a team player ready to work in a collaborative environment within the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section. The Civil/Highway EIT shall be familiar with both local and national codes, standards, and specifications.
In the role of Civil/Highway EIT/Designer, we’ll count on you to:
- Work on a team with other project engineers on the detailed design of local roadway/highway design, hydraulic/hydrologic analysis, storm/sanitary sewer design, site grading, preparation of stormwater pollution prevention plans including design of post‑construction stormwater management and sediment and erosion controls, utility design, permitting, and coordinating with regulatory agencies and other design disciplines.
- Take responsibility for alignment and profile, geometrics, drainage, development of plans, specifications and construction estimates.
- Provide assistance with the creation and submission of technical reports, specifications and calculations.
- Work in a production role on design‑build projects to coordinate design packages, track quality control reviews and ensuring the project is on schedule.
- MS/BS in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering field.
- Preferred candidates will have EIT and be on track for NY or NJ PE. Candidates hired without their EIT will be titled "Civil/Highway Designer".
- Experience with MTA, NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NJDOT and/or NJTA projects is preferred.
- Microsoft Office experience required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar field.
