Scientist – Analytical Chemistry & Media Characterization

This role will focus on analytical methods for trace‑level detection of metals and organics at ppb and ppt levels, as well as media characterization, including chemistry, structure, surface properties, porosity, and related material‑performance and cleanliness attributes. The Scientist is expected to work independently within established processes, follow best laboratory safety practices, and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary projects.

This position reports to the Director of the Materials and Products Characterization (MPC) group within the R&D organization. This is an on‑site role located in Port Washington, New York, USA.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To
  • Develop, validate, refine, and execute SOPs and analytical methods for chemical, structural, and physical characterization of components, filtration media, and finished filtration, purification, and separation devices.
  • Perform trace‑level chemical analysis for metals, extractables, leachables, organics, and other critical contaminants at ppb and ppt levels.
  • Characterize filtration media properties, including chemistry, morphology, porosity, surface area, surface energy, thermal behavior, viscoelastic properties, and associated performance attributes.
  • Document experiments, data analysis, conclusions, and recommendations in laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and project summaries while upholding all safety, quality, and laboratory compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities, including test planning, scheduling, method readiness, preventive maintenance, and vendor interactions.
The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include
  • B.S., or M.S. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline, with 3+ years of hands‑on analytical laboratory experience or Ph.D. with an equivalent relevant academic experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, validating, and executing analytical methods for chemical and/or materials characterization, with strong data analysis, documentation, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently within defined procedures while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams, with a strong commitment to safe laboratory practices, data integrity, and high‑quality experimental execution.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work safely in a chemistry laboratory environment, including handling chemicals and operating analytical instrumentation.
