NY/NJ Major Bridges Leader
The NY/NJ Major Bridges Leader plans, directs, and monitors all aspects of multi‑disciplined bridge projects, including those with a high degree of technical complexity involving diverse project staff. The role oversees or serves in a lead technical or problem‑solving capacity on bridge design projects, performing complex structural planning, analysis, and design for suspension, cable‑stay, arch, segmental, extradosed, steel, and prestressed concrete bridges.
The leader ensures project deliverables and supporting documentation are complete, understandable, and conform to applicable industry standards and client and HDR requirements.
The leader participates in the design and production of schematic, design development, and contract documents in conjunction with project managers and other technical professionals, manages or supports major pursuits, develops QA/QC procedures, conducts bridge plan reviews for complex projects, mentors less experienced bridge designers, oversees the implementation of emerging technologies, and participates in the national and global selection of key staff to drive growth of HDR's Bridge program.
Preferred Qualifications- BS/MS in Structural Engineering or closely related field is required.
- New York or New Jersey PE license strongly preferred; PE licensure in other states highly desirable and ability to obtain reciprocity with other states as needed.
- SE license desirable.
- 15+ years project and client management experience with significant project experience.
- MS Office experience.
- Effective communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to interact with various design teams, and excellent organizational, project management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to provide performance coaching and mentoring to less experienced staff.
- Versatility in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor, Civil 3D, Rhino, Revit, Micro Station, Larsa 4D Bridge Plus, SAP 2000, FB Multi Pier, Leap Bridge Enterprise.
- Established client relationships in the NY/NJ and New England region among major bridge clients.
- Experience working with MTA, NYSDOT, NJDOT, NY State Bridge Authority, NJ Turnpike Authority, Port Authority of NY & NJ, Mass DOT, and other major regional clients is highly desirable.
- Experience in rail bridges, pedestrian bridges, and projects with trail/bike path facilities.
- Experience working on projects involving signature bridges.
- Experience in pursuits for bridge‑centered projects.
- Experience preparing project scope, fee, and schedule.
- Experience in bridge parametric modeling and design.
- Experience and active participation in industry organizations, technical conferences, and professional associations.
- Preference given to candidates currently residing in the NY/NJ area.
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
- 10 years of experience.
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values.
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience.
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams.
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts.

Compensation depends on skills, experience, education and geographical location. Expected range for New York City: $181,000–$264,375.
