Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Senior Waterfront/Structural Engineer to join its collaborative team in New York City
. This individual will play a key role on projects along the shoreline and will assist in creating design documents for various waterfront structures such as bulkheads, retaining walls, piers, platforms, revetments, breakwaters, fenders, docks, flood resiliency measures, and more.
- Assist project manager with field work coordination and project management support;
- Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations;
- Inventory and assess the condition of existing waterfront structures;
- Observe waterfront construction activities and monitor conformance with the construction documents;
- Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches;
- Assist in preparation of plans and details using computer aided design methods;
- Perform structural and geotechnical design related to waterfront structures and general site construction;
- Assist in the preparation of various design deliverables, technical reports and permit applications;
- Accurately document and communicate with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites; and
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required;
Master’s degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering or desire to pursue such is strongly preferred; - 3+ years of related experience in waterfront, structural, or geotechnical engineering;
- FE/PE certification preferred;
- Office experience coordinating investigations and other field work, technical writing, structural/geotechnical design, and preparing construction plans and specifications;
- Prior field experience in waterfront facility inspections, geotechnical explorations, and engineering observations during construction, preferable for waterfront structures;
- Desired software knowledge:
Slide or SLOPE/W, SPW
911, Deep Ex, LPILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, SAP
2000, Risa2D/3D; - Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
- Willingness to spend time in the field observing construction activities and performing required investigations;
- Given the nature of our waterfront work, the ability to swim and operate non-motorized watercraft (e.g. kayak, canoe) is preferred; and
- Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $72,000 - $103,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program.
Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
