The Environmental
Superintendent oversees remediation and hazardous waste construction sites
from planning to completion. Responsibilities include daily scheduling and
supervision of field activities, ensuring worker safety, maintaining strict
regulatory compliance with NYSDEC and other agencies, protecting the
environment, and delivering projects on time, on budget, and to required
quality standards. Strong leadership is required on complex sites involving
contaminated soil excavation, material handling, site restoration, and
regulator coordination.

** Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:*
* ** Safety*
* - Lead proactive safety performance with emphasis on hazardous materials, decontamination, and environmental hazards.

- Monitor and correct safety issues involving contaminated materials, dust, vapors, and equipment; have authority to stop work when needed.

- Conduct daily toolbox talks incorporating site-specific environmental hazards and decontamination procedures.

- Ensure Pre-Task Plans address environmental risks and that crews follow HAZWOPER requirements and proper PPE/decontamination protocols.

- Support air/dust/odor monitoring and environmental controls required by site plans and regulations.

** Job Start Up*
* - Participate in Project Handover Meeting and review environmental remedial designs, work plans, NYSDEC approvals, and permits.

- Select and schedule appropriate remediation equipment and generate manpower requirements (including HAZWOPER-trained personnel).

- Review contract documents, environmental work plans, quantities (contaminated vs. clean materials), budget, and develop work plans/production targets with PM.

- Develop CPM schedule with PM/Scheduler, incorporating environmental milestones and regulatory hold points.

- Set up site facilities, waste/staging areas for contaminated and clean materials, survey control, signs, and required environmental postings.

- Ensure Site Specific Safety Plan, SDS, hospital directions, and environmental emergency procedures are in place and posted.

** Project Execution*
* - Lead daily field operations: generate and communicate Play of the Day, production targets, and environmental compliance requirements to foremen and crews.

- Train and develop crews on proper handling of contaminated materials, decontamination, waste segregation, and environmental best practices.

- Maintain weekly look-ahead schedules aligned with CPM and environmental/regulatory milestones; forecast 4-week needs for labor, materials, and equipment.

- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and decontaminated when moving between areas; track and report equipment hours daily.

- Maintain accurate daily field logs including environmental observations, material tracking (contaminated vs. clean), and compliance notes.

- Track and claim quantities daily, clearly differentiating contaminated/excavated materials and clean fill import; review with Owner/rep regularly.

- Coordinate with Subcontractors on environmental scopes (e.g., asbestos abatement, ET covers); verify quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

- Maintain daily communication with Owner rep and coordinate with NYSDEC/regulators during site visits and inspections.

- Monitor real-time job costs (including disposal, treatment, and compliance); work with PM on timely cost projections and pay applications.

- Ensure all work complies with approved NYSDEC remedial plans and that a high-quality product is accepted by the Owner and regulators.

** Job Closeout*
* - Complete as-builts per remedial design requirements and document project punch list.

- Compile all environmental documentation, sampling results, manifests, and reports to support NYSDEC closeout and approval.

** Business Development*
* - Identify environmental remediation opportunities and maintain relationships with prior clients.

- Recruit craft, foremen, and supers with remediation/hazardous waste experience; train replacement with emphasis on environmental compliance knowledge.
